El Gobierno federal presentará este jueves los documentos para comenzar el trámite de la ratificación por parte del Senado del Tratado entre México, Estados Unidos y Canadá (T-MEC), adelantó el presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
El presidente dijo que Julio Scherer Ibarra, consejero jurídico de la Presidencia; Marcelo Ebrard, secretario de Relaciones Exteriores; Graciela Márquez, secretaria de Economía, y Jesús Seade, subsecretario para América del Norte, acudirán a la Cámara alta para hacer la presentación.
El mandatario señaló que la aprobación del nuevo acuerdo comercial, que sustituirá al Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN), es facultad exclusiva del Senado y que solo se necesita una mayoría simple.
“Desde luego, repito, se trata de un poder independiente. Ellos van a decidir (los senadores), pero señalo que existe, sino un consenso, un apoyo mayoritario del pueblo de México para que se apruebe y ratifique este tratado”, detalló.
Por otra parte, Scherer explicó que los documentos serán turnados a las comisiones de Relaciones Exteriores, Relaciones Exteriores para América del Norte y de Economía del Senado.
Ebrard agregó que el proceso de ratificación se inició luego de que se superaran “algunos obstáculos” como la eliminación de los aranceles al acero y aluminio de México por parte del Gobierno de Donald Trump.
Seade, principal negociador del T-MEC en México, señaló que para llegar a este momento fue necesario cumplir con tres metas: la publicación de la reforma laboral, la eliminación de aranceles al acero aluminio impuestos por EU a sus socios comerciales, y el contacto estrecho entre los ejecutivos de los tres países.
El T-MEC fue firmado el pasado 30 de noviembre por el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, el expresidente Enrique Peña Nieto y el primer ministro de Canadá, Justin Trudeau, en Buenos Aires, Argentina, en el marco de la cumbre del G-20.
El acuerdo debe ser ratificado por los Congresos de las tres naciones firmantes.
